Jalal ad-Din Rumi, Ambassador of Friendship: Professor Nasr

TEHRAN Dec. 17 (Mehr News Agency) –- Jalal ad-Din Rumi is ambassador of friendship between Islam and the West, and his message of sympathy and solidarity contributes to global unity, said Seyyed Hussein Nasr, Iranian professor at George Washington University.

Professor Nasr who is visiting the mausoleum of Rumi in Konya, Turkey delivered a speech on commemoration of Rumi, which was filmed and screened at the International Seminar “Rumi’s Teachings for Contemporary Man” here on Tuesday.

“I know a seminar commemorating Rumi is being held in Iran as well and I was asked to deliver a speech on Rumi,” he said in his speech.

“Rumi’s Masnavi-ye Ma’navi (spiritual couplets) is an ocean of wisdom and mysticism into which man can immerse. There is no way to encompass Masnavi, for it has no limitations,” it continued.

“His Divan-e Shams is the heartbeat of divine love, and its prosody and rhyme is incomparable in Persian poetry. Iranian music is highly inspired by his high spirit which is mingled with art and beauty,” it added.

“His message written in Persian language will last as long as Persian language lasts,” it mentioned.

The seminar ended Wednesday at Tehran University.
